From Mevaseret to Ein Kerem

The interim days of Passover, 2019: A beautiful walk that circles the west of Jerusalem, and is possibly completely without a car!

We began here, at Rekhes Halilim (take the bus to Mevaseret and get off a few stops into Mevaseret)

but we soon found it impossible to walk - huge rocks, ups and downs - with our huge carriage. For kids over four or five who can walk well on their own, this is a lovely carless hike easily accessible from Jerusalem! The beginning of the hike looks like this.....

And in a shady area on the hike

Then we gave that up - too hard with a carriage!

But then we discovered a surprise exciting carless walk. We began this walk by getting off the Mevaseret-Jerusalem bus - on our way back to Jerusalem - at the first stop after Mevaseret - by Bet Zayit. We set off on a bike/walking path, part of the new path that encircles Jerusalem.
Here's us on the way

We walked for about an hour on this paved trail and then took a small dirt path up into Ein Kerem - a beautiful if somewhat challenging uphill walk....

Here's the beginning....

Looking for "archeological finds" (I explained to the kids that there's been people living for thousands of years in this area!

And a beautiful final ascent into Ein Kerem.....

And bus 28 up to the top of Ein Kerem (after ice cream of course....) and then bus 17 or the Light Rail or whatever you happen to need and you're back home after a wonderful round trip!
